How to Maximize Driver Earnings

Tips to Maximize Earnings Sign up for as many Rideshare and Delivery Gig apps as you can. This will allow you to leverage promotions and surge pricing. Check the apps regularly throughout the day to get a feel for which apps generally have the better paying gigs, promotions, or surge pricing on select days or times. Focus on driving Uber or Lyft during peak hours when demand is highest, such as weekday mornings (6-9 AM) and evenings (5-7 PM). This is when surge pricing is likely to be in effect. Additionally, weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) can be quite busy especially in downtown areas or near restaurants and bars.
  • Pro Tip: College and NFL football games can be very lucrative. Que up in the ride share driver area about 15 minutes before the game is over. After you have a passenger in your car toggle your availability to off. After you drop the passenger off, head back to the stadium and toggle your availability to on once you’re in the pickup area again. Using this strategy, you are likely to get 2-3 very high paying rideshare rides after a football game.
Focus on delivery gigs (Roadie, Getir, Instacart, Grubhub, DoorDash, Spark), when Ride Share is slow (generally from 10-3 pm). Be willing to pass on cheap deliveries and focus on better paying ones. Leverage the delivery apps against each other to get better paying delivery gigs.
  • Pro Tip: Stack Rideshare rides with a Delivery going the same direction. For example, if you are doing a longer delivery for Roadie turn on Uber or Lyft and set the delivery address as your destination. Uber and Lyft may send rides that align with your route. You can usually utilize this app feature twice a day.
  • Additionally, you can stack a delivery with a scheduled rideshare ride. If you accept a longer rideshare ride, about an hour before the pickup check for a delivery going in the same direction. Be sure to pick up the delivery with plenty of time to arrive on time for your passenger pickup. After you drop off your passenger complete the delivery.
Maximize Efficiency. Many drivers have indicated that the map within Uber is not always the most efficient. You can switch to using navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps to find more efficient routes and avoid traffic.
  • To set your default navigation app in the Uber App: Tap your profile picture in the upper right corner. Choose Account from the top menu. Select App Setting. Tap Navigation. Select the app you want as your default.
Keep your car clean to ensure a comfortable ride for passengers. This helps to increase ratings and tips.  Offer Excellent Customer Service. If a passenger has luggage help them load it in the trunk and open the door for them. Greet passengers warmly and offer amenities such as a mint, gum, or to let them charge their phone. Help them unload any luggage at their destination. This can help improve driver ratings and tips.  Maintain a polite and professional demeanor to earn better ratings and tips. Respect the passenger’s preferences for conversation or silence. If the passenger wants to talk, you can discuss neutral and light topics such as local attractions, weather, popular restaurants, or recent events in the area. You can also ask about their day or if they have any travel plans, making sure to keep the conversation friendly and professional.
