What to Do If Involved in an Accident

Being involved in a car accident can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. Knowing what steps to take immediately after the incident can help ensure your safety, protect your legal rights, and facilitate a smoother claims process. Here’s a guide on what to do if you’re involved in an accident:
1. Stay Calm and Assess the Situation
  • Check for Injuries: First, check yourself and your passengers for any injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately for medical assistance.
  • Move to Safety: If the accident is minor and it’s safe to do so, move your vehicle to the side of the road to prevent further accidents and improve traffic flow. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers.
  • Do Not Admit Fault: Admitting fault after a car accident can complicate the claims process and potentially increase your liability, even if you are not entirely at fault. It’s best to let insurance companies and authorities determine responsibility based on the evidence.
2. Call the Authorities
  • Contact the Police: It’s important to call the police even if the accident is minor. A police report can be critical for insurance claims and legal purposes. Cooperate with the officers and provide an accurate account of what happened.
  • Follow Instructions: Follow any instructions given by the authorities and remain at the scene until you’re told you can leave.
3. Document the Scene
  • Exchange Information: Exchange names, insurance information, and driver’s license numbers with the other driver(s) involved. Also, note the make, model, and license plate number of their vehicle.
  • Get Witnesses: If there are any witnesses, ask for their names and contact information. Their statements could be valuable for your insurance claim.
  • If the vehicle is not driveable after the accident use Encore towing service. In some circumstances and areas the police may require specific tow services to be used. If so follow their direction.
4. Notify Our Office and The Insurance Company
  • Report the Accident: Contact our office via the PN cars group chat and contact the insurance company as soon as possible to report the accident. Provide them with all the necessary information and documentation. Then provide the claims number to the PN cars group chat.
  • The insurance coverage provided by us during your rental covers only personal use of the vehicle.
  • If you are using a gig commercial app such as Uber/Lyft/Doordash etc. These apps provide you insurance while engaged in commercial activities. If you are involved in an accident while using or having your availability toggled on for one of these apps you should report any accidents to the gig apps insurance.
5. Seek Medical Attention
  • Visit a Doctor: Even if you don’t feel injured, it’s wise to see a doctor after an accident. Some injuries may not be immediately apparent and could manifest later.
  • Keep Records: Keep detailed records of all medical visits, treatments, and expenses related to the accident. This documentation will be important for any potential claims or legal actions.
6. Follow Up
  • Repair Your Vehicle: Coordinate with the insurance company to get the vehicle repaired and obtain a rental car. Choose a reputable repair shop and keep all receipts and documentation of the repairs. Communicate these plans or any issues you have with insurance to PN cars group chat.
  • If the vehicle is disabled due to an accident and you were using a commercial app at the time, use the insurance provided by that app to arrange for towing, repair, and obtaining a rental.
If the vehicle is disabled due to an accident and you were using the vehicle for personal use at the time then you will use the insurance we provided to arrange for towing, repair, and obtaining a rental.
